God answers prayers in unexpected ways. When I was going through in-vitro, I experienced the strangest phenomenon. Are you ready for this? I kept cracking double yoke eggs. Not what you were expecting me to say, right? I know! Prior to in-vitro, I don’t recall ever cracking a double yoke egg. Now, as I am going through fertility treatments, I am suddenly attracting very fertile eggs. If you mamas don’t know this already, God has the best sense of humor.
This new double yoke phenomenon was especially comforting to me after our egg retrieval. Post procedure, we started with twelve babies, (time to buy a mini van!!!) Sadly, by day five, we had only one baby left. I was hyper stimulated after egg retrieval, (my body was way too happy on the fertility medication), so implanting our single survivor baby had to wait for my body to heal. Our single baby went on ice, literally! My husband’s nickname for our lone survivor was “Ice Baby”.
The scenario I was praying for was healthy babies, plural. But what about all these double yokes? Was God telling me something with the double yokes? Or was I simply making something out of nothing? Secretly, I hoped my double yoke phenomenon meant our “Ice Baby” embryo would split and we would have identical twins, just like the double yokes!
Ultimately Ice Baby was implanted nine months later. The subsequent pregnancy test would confirm my gut wrenching fears, and the end to our fertility journey. I don’t have to tell any of my special mama readers what this news feels like: there are simply no words.
BUT MAMAS, please hear me: God wastes nothing! That double yoke phenomenon DID come to fruition on February 15, 2014. That is the day my beautiful twin nieces entered this world! It was not the packaging I expected, but my “bubbies” are one of the greatest gifts of my life. My double yoke blessing!
