Summer had officially started! The outdoor concerts were in full swing. What better activity to break up the monotony of the weeks’ work than an outdoor concert? Does it matter that I have never heard of this band? Nope! This concert was sold out, so clearly I was the one in the minority. The special thing about this concert was the two-story open air VIP structure! My lucky husband won a pair of tickets, and we had VIP access! We weren’t sitting on a grass patch tonight. Its time to roll out the red carpet people, here we come!
Inside this VIP structure was great people watching. Like better than airport people watching! Everyone in this structure was dressed up; picture Hollywood meets cowboy chic. (I didn’t get the memo). In between the second opener and the headliner I noticed a couple that was standing at the edge of the balcony, leaned up against the glass railing. What made me take notice of this couple was the professional photographer that was clearly following them. My curiosity was piqued. I was trying to make sense of this entourage that was before me. I kept waiting for a proposal or some BIG surprise to happen. What were they doing here?
CLICK. The photographer first took the staged glass railing shots. Next the couple moved on to the ‘sit together and hug while looking out at the EMPTY stage’ portion of the photo shoot, CLICK. But it was when the band actually came on that the real fake magic happened! This couple started clapping to the music, even though this was not a ‘clapping song’. Then with the camera CLICK, they moved onto the ‘raise one-hand fist and pound in air’. CLICK. Next it was the lets pretend to swing dance. CLICK. All these poses were just long enough for the camera CLICK. Their scripted actions were not even matching the rhythm of the song. This was so fascinatingly odd. I had to remind myself I was here to watch the concert and not them, but I was captivated. CLICK.
I couldn’t believe what happened next. The strangest thing yet… THEY LEFT!
The camera will tell the story of a couple deeply in love who, watched an entire concert, had the time of their lives, and were totally absorbed in the moment and each other. The truth of what actually happened was a couple that mechanically posed for pictures, completely out of sync with music and left as the FIRST song finished!!! The……. First …….. Song!!! What a lie! CLICK.
This lie is sold to us DAILY, isn’t it mamas? Their entire photo shoot was fake. A façade. CLICK.
Mamas, what is your fake trap? What lie do you believe? What accusation is whispered to you over and over again? Does it involve: guilt, shame, rejection, jealousy, abandonment, pity, comparison, or worthiness? I know my lie. I have struggled with worthiness my whole life, never feeling good enough. My lie was sown in me as a child, and has been watered and nurtured ever since. Here’s what the Bible says about my lie:
“Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes.” Ephesians 1:4
We are chosen, we are good enough!
The source of every lie is satan. His only objective in this world is to cause death and destruction in his wake. To accomplish this he just has to keep us distracted, miserable, obtuse to our purpose. Our inaction is his victory. And what is the most effective method way to accomplish this?…. Whisper a lie. Don’t let yourself to be a casualty. Mamas, please don’t allow your life, your mind, your worth, your legacy to be hijacked by this master of lies.
Mamas, we live in a fake society. As people, we can paint a pretty convincing fake picture and set the perfect fake trap. Resist the urge to believe everything you see. Next time there is a CLICK, I hope we are able to spot the lie. There is always more to the story. Mamas, we are good enough!
