Do you have a life verse mamas? A Bible verse that holds special meaning for you: your motto, your affirmation from God, your hug from heaven? When I was first asked this question as a freshman in college, it was an easy answer for me. Despite the fact that there are 66 books of the Bible, containing 929 chapters, and 31,102 verses, I knew mine by heart.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you so that you may go and bear fruit – fruit that will last….” John 15:16
As a child, I did not feel chosen. I carried a secret fear that I was not good enough. To me, Jesus was just another father figure to earn approval from. This was a comfortable and familiar relationship.
My love of this verse came down to Jesus’ three words– I CHOSE YOU. It was all my little girl heart ever wanted to hear. I WAS ENOUGH.
I have to admit, the bearing fruit portion of the verse was just ‘there’ and I didn’t pay much attention to it. When I picked this verse, I did not know the baby loss journey that was waiting for me, but God did. He knew I would spend my 30’s and beyond grieving the loss of all 13 of my babies, instead of bearing them.
The question begs to be answered: “What am I to ‘bear’ now God? “
Mamas, I don’t get off the hook just because all my ‘fruit’ is in waiting in Heaven! This just means MY bearing fruit looks different than others. And mamas, that is okay! Sometimes God calls you to be the helper and not the hero; the auntie and not the mother; the cheerleader not the football star. Embrace the role God has given you. You were selected and chosen for the path you are on.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:1
If you don’t have a life verse, why not pick one today? Give your life’s journey a foundation and a compass. Mamas you are CHOSEN, you are loved, and you have a purpose.
JUST DO SOMETHING.
