Imagine a life where everything around you has the potential to harm; even something as innocent as a Christmas party may post dire consequences. Welcome to my world mamas. I was born special, like really really really special. I am a less than graceful, mini giant who regularly injures myself and damages inanimate objects. Walls and doors tend to jump out at me; does anyone else share this issue? The best compliment to my specialness is my ability to laugh at myself. I enjoy bringing levity to life and making people laugh, with/at/alongside ME. It is my gift to the world, and it is a gift that never appears to run dry.
Aside from the extra guardian angel duty, (trust me, I need them); God has given me a husband and bodyguard all in one. My hubby knows my specialness and is always beside me keeping me upright, literally. You may see us walking down the street and he has a secure hold on me. I am sure many are thinking that is so sweet and romantic, yes AND no, it is partially for safety!
Last month, we attended a Christmas party. It was pretty packed! Everyone migrated to the basement and small groups of 3 or 4 circled up in close conversation. Our sardine group was huddled up next to the couch. After a socially acceptable amount of time had transpired, we reached the magical moment in the evening when we could leave. I began surveying the room and plotting my exit strategy. It was at this time that I first realized I had been standing next to a lit candle on a side table. Wearing heels and a very flammable holiday dress, I had been inches from an open flame all night. I was literally butted up next to danger. (Pun intended).
My imagination quickly sparked considering all the ‘could of, should of ‘ happenings that I had just narrowly escaped. My eyes got wide as I met my hubby’s gaze, and then they darted downward to the flame. My hubby reassuringly responded, “I know, I was watching it”.
In the Bible, you will find similar reassurance:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord you God is with you wherever your go.” Joshua 1:9
This verse also applies to protection detail at Christmas parties.
Playful and lighthearted hazard story aside; God has safely guided us through another year mamas. That does not mean we didn’t escape without bumps and bruises along they way. But it does mean God still has work for us to finish. Lets keep our funny bone in tune, and let our laughter soar in 2024.
