Life As It Should Be Verses Life As It Really Is

Mamas, I discovered a secret!!!  There is a BIG difference between: life as it should be verses life as it really is. This sounds so obvious. But how many of us are accepting life as it really is? Think about it?

Life as it should be verses life as it really is.

My workday morning routine starts the same, I turn on my work computer, open all the programs, and take a tally of my activities. Just how behind am I today? How many Calendars? Emails? Outstanding projects?   Then if I am really on top of my game, I pray.  Today, I was on top of my game.  I thanked God for the day before and how I managed to keep a positive attitude throughout.  That is a huge accomplishment for me. Attitude is everything.

Life as it should be verses life as it really is.

Yesterday was a good workday. I avoided all the usual traps that snare me at work. I didn’t take the bait on frustrations that are out of my control.  Believe me mamas, there is plenty of bait laid out for me daily. This bait is my slippery slope. I can’t allow a single complaint to pass through my lips otherwise it opens a dam that can’t be plugged.

Life as it should be verses life as it really is.

I have lived the majority of my professional life with a Garden of Eden backdrop. I start each day hopeful, only to be pummeled within seconds of entering the work arena. Mamas, we don’t live in the Garden of Eden, so why do I start each morning expecting it?

Life as it should be verses life as it really is.

Mamas, IF your happiness is contingent on another human, occupation, or THING, you are going to be let down 100% of the time.  I can promise you this. However IF you can train yourself to accept what you can’t change and release control over things you can’t affect— Then you have discovered the secret to contentment.

Life as it should be verses life as it really is.

Today, I added a famous prayer to my work desk, highly visible so I can be read it multiple times and be reminded of the difference between: Life as it should be verses life as it really is.

– Serenity Prayer –

God grant me the SERENITY to accept the thing I cannot change,

COURAGE to change the things I can,

and WISDOM to know the difference.
