What advice would you give your 20 year old self?
My friend asked me this insightful question as we sipped kombucha, and chatted around her kitchen island. I paused for a moment, feeling the weight of such advice. There are so many things I want to tell young me. How do I sum up 40+ years of lived wisdom into one single piece of advice? Surprisingly, my answer came fast. I would tell my younger self…
You are enough.
I have struggled with self-worth my whole life. Never feeling quite good enough. I don’t even have to ask my mamas reading this if you relate, I know I am not alone in this struggle. How many times do we allow our minds to drift off into conflicted contemplation? Am I enough to my Husband? Kids? Employer? Friends? There are so many avenues to daydream about falling short. It must be written into every woman’s DNA.
You are enough.
To counteract my self-worth struggles, I have to remind myself often that I am chosen. Out to the 8.2 billion people on the planet Jesus says: “You did not choose me, I chose you…” John 15:16.
You are enough.
We were loved before we were created mamas. Let that sink in for a moment. Before you were even born, you were loved, set apart, special. “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart….” Jeremiah 1:5 NLT.
You are enough.
If only we could truly accept what Jesus says countless times throughout the Bible.
You are enough.
Mamas, how about we actually try and live like we really believe we are enough! I AM ENOUGH. This is what I would tell younger me. This is what I will tell older me.
