99th: Butterfly Flutters, and Tornados

Mamas, have you ever wondered if you have purpose in life? Do you really make a difference? As I reflect on the impact of this online ministry, and my 99th post today, I have to confess I wonder this a lot.

Its times like these that I think of the Butterfly Effect which claims a simple flutter of a butterfly wing can impact a tornado thousands of miles away. Even though I doubt butterfly flutters really impact tornados, I love the picture this paints. I really do believe small acts of kindness can produce sensational outcomes.

Mamas, please consider the butterfly effect the next time you question whether or not you matter. You are reading this today because of the butterfly flutters in my life.

I started this online ministry in the middle of the pandemic and during the apocalyptic wildfires of 2020.  I remember telling ONE friend the date I planned to launch my very first post.  Like most deadlines, that day came quicker than expected.  With the global pandemic and wildfire upheaval, I felt I earned a pass on my self-imposed due date. I wasn’t going to do it.  Who would notice anyway?

Then there was a knock at my front door with my first butterfly flutter, a surprise flower delivery…

FROM

THAT

ONE

FRIEND.

After the flower delivery, I knew I was without excuse. With wildfire air quality so abysmal and it was infiltrating our home, I entered my walk-in closet with my laptop. My windowless closet had the freshest air and zero distraction. I shut the door and began writing my very first blog post.

Even before I made my online leap, I had a phenomenal line up of beautiful butterflies making great flutters in my life.  Years before my online debut, I had a new artistically gifted friend. She made me an incredible beaded bracelet, and after seeing my stunned reaction, she offered to teach me how.  Then my bracelet friend went a step further and took me to the local craft stores to get supplies to create my very own bracelets. This small butterfly flutter soon morphed into a ministry where hundreds of bracelets have been gifted to hurting mamas all across the world.

This bracelet friend forged a legacy with…

ONE

SMALL
GIFT.

Then there is my mentor friend. She started out as my supervisor during a volunteer stint at a local nonprofit. I offered to gift my homemade bracelets to their hurting mama clients. She happily accepted, and asked me to write a message to accompany each bracelet. I still share this very same message today when gifting my bracelets.  This same mentor friend helped me set up this website. Trust me mamas, it would not have happened without her.  She also started a monthly writers group and gently coaxed me to join. Lots of significant butterfly flutters continue from this one generous mentor friend.

MENTORS
MATTER.

The butterfly effects of these friends and their seemingly small gifts, each turned into God whispers. These whispers then unleashed tornados in my life. Each of my friends’ giftings of time and talent have transformed my legacy, my purpose, and as a result they have helped hundreds upon hundreds of hurting mamas through this ministry.

Mamas, I genuinely believe one of the best parts of Heaven will be seeing the impacts that OUR butterfly flutters had on the world. May you always keep the faith and belief that you were created with a calling and purpose.

Mamas, are you a Butterfly? A flutter maker?  A tornado? All three?

Our flutters matter.

Let’s go start some tornados!
