We All Fall Down

“London bridges falling down, falling down, falling down.

London bridges falling down

My Fair Lady…”

How many mamas remember this from their elementary school days? I might be dating myself right now. If I have lost you, YouTube has a video for my curious or confused readers.

I just spent the most perfect Sunday on the water with friends and their boat. We were making waves and for everyone, but me, wake surfing! When I play the memory reel of that weekend and all my attempts at ‘surfing’; London Bridges is the background soundtrack.

Jackie is falling down, falling down, falling down.

Technically I never was able to ‘get upright’ in order to genuinely fall down, but you get the picture.

Regardless, I had the most fun watching my friends find their groove and dance on the waves. We had music playing, and the motion and movement required to stay upright really does look like you are dancing. I even got to see my hubby dance!

What was even more entertaining than the dance moves, were the faces. Everyone starts out in brisk water, so cold that it takes your breath away.  Unfortunately for me, I never made it out of this system shocking cold water. All my camera cameos captured, I had highly unflattering facial expressions.

But on the flip side, when my hubby made it upright his very first time, his face exuded pride, satisfaction, and super intense concentration.

There was one thing true of everyone in our boat group… It didn’t matter HOW good you were, eventually everyone caught a wave wrong, lost their balance, or they just simply tired out AND they all fall down.

My takeaway from my Sunday fun day; I am going to keep falling down, falling down, falling down…  The only way to ‘get upright’ is to fall down, and learn from each failed attempt. No one is immune from practice, false starts, or being dragged behind the boat like a fish on a hook.

Mamas, when the waves of life come falling down, you have a choice to make.

You can choose stay in the boat and refuse to even touch water.

You can choose to go out in the cold waters of life and then give up.

OR

You can choose to stay in the cold water and keep trying.

For me, the best part about staying in the freezing cold water, until I finally get upright, will be my view; all my friends cheering from inside the boat!
