Then You Wouldn’t Love Us As Much

In the past year, I have taken advantage of many airline deals.  What’s my favorite destination you may be wondering? It’s my nonstop flight to see my twin nieces ‘the bubbies’.  I have discovered that when you book a ticket, many times there after the airline sends another sensation deal to your email inbox. So, naturally, I blame Alaska Airlines for the frequency of my new addiction.

On one recent trip down, I was in the dining room with my sister and reflecting on how different life would have been if God had said YES to all my baby prayers. What if my IVF baby journey was successful? What if Ice Baby wasn’t in heaven with his 12 other brothers and sisters? (First things first, I would definitely be needing a vehicle upgrade!)

At this point in our conversation one of my bubbies was casually passing through, and quickly dropped her truth bomb into our conversation by nonchalantly declaring:

“BUT then you wouldn’t love us as much.”

Clearly my bubby is okay with how my life turned out. Is there anything more pure, raw, and honest than perceptions from a brand new middle schooler?

What is even more surprising to me is how much I live my life like my bubbies’ perception of love is real.

I am a guardian, a nurturer, a comforter, and a doer. When you are this way naturally, it is easy to assume you are loved because you take such good care of those around you. But what if I wasn’t this way? Would I still be loved as much? Am I loved because of who I am at my core or what I do for others?  Do I really believe I am loved unconditionally?

Mamas, is there a voice inside of you saying: “BUT then you wouldn’t love ME as much.”  too?

Who would have thought one passing line from an 11 year old could elicit such deep contemplation?

For real wisdom lets go to the creator of love and see what Jesus says on this topic. What does unconditional love really look like?

“For God so loved the world

that He gave His one and only Son,

that whoever believes in Him

shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3: 16

There is a reason the above verse is quoted and memorized by millions and millions of Christians around the world. This summarizes the Bible, Faith, and LOVE in…

ONE

SINGLE

VERSE.

Each of us walking this planet wants to be loved like this. Can I let you in on a secret, mamas?  YOU already are!

The sad truth is most of the world’s population is stumbling through life completely blind to the unconditional, pure, raw, love that already surrounds them. We live our lives not fully understanding the depth of love Jesus has for each of us.

Jesus is the ultimate guardian, nurturer, and doer.

I may always struggle to believe I can be worthy of a love this unconditional, this deep, and this perfect; but that does not diminish the profound depth of love Jesus has for each of us. I don’t have to believe that I am loved for it to be true.

Mamas, we are all special unique creations and loved beyond measure. Lets really try and live like we believe this mamas. Let’s quiet our inner voice that says: “But then you wouldn’t love us as much.”
