I wake up first most weekday mornings. I try to be as graceful and quiet as I can be so I don’t wake up hubby. This takes a lot of concentration and effort for a half awake klutz. By nature, I am neither quiet nor graceful. In fact, these are the two adjectives my husband would never use to describe me.
I first go into the walk-in closet to pick an outfit, in the dark. Then I go into the bathroom to get dressed, in the dark. As I type this, I am realizing how much easier life would be if I prepped the night before and laid out my clothes. But hey, then I wouldn’t have this story to tell.
Normally this process is fast. I get a daily surprise by what I pull out in the dark. After all, everything matches with jeans, right? Today was different. I had an appointment and I wanted to wear this specific button up dress shirt. I had my phone with me so I woke up the screen so it would provide a few seconds of low light for me to look for this plaid pattern shirt. It is supposed to be hung on the upper rack with my other short sleeve dress shirts. (Are you impressed with my organization, mamas?)
Why was I not seeing it? Probably because the screen light lasts just a few seconds before it goes back to sleep; kinda like what I wish I was doing in that moment. After trying this low light screen option multiple times and failing, I shut the closet door so I could turn on my phone flashlight.
The sacrifices I make to not wake up my hubby!
The extra light worked and I quickly located the plaid dress shirt. My previous failed attempts were because this shirt was not where it was supposed to be. It was on the lower rack with the long sleeved shirts, instead of the upper with the other short-sleeved shirts.
Imagine that mamas; not finding an item because it is not where it is supposed to be?
I can’t help but wonder how many times God struggles with us not being where we are supposed to be? Be honest mamas, how many times do we blame God because we wondered away from Him like a rogue toddler? Luckily we are never lost or out of reach from Jesus.
Mamas, we get to choose if we live life by the light of our cell phone screen, if we live life with light from a flashlight, or perhaps get really wild and turn on the actual overhead lighting.
Don’t live your life in the dark any more mamas. Jesus is the light of the world, and a relationship with Him really is as easy as flipping on a light switch!
