I know better… But still, I chose to disregard the little voice inside saying “Slow down Jackie”.
To be fair, this little voice says this a lot, so it is easy to ignore.
I had just logged off work. I was about to retreat upstairs when I walked passed my messy kitchen. I knew my future self would really be happy if I got a load of dishes in right now; instead of having to prep dinner later in a disaster zone.
As I was in full dish mode, I got a call from a co-worker to commiserate on a work situation from earlier. So I am doing dishes, quickly, while talking to my co-worker on speakerphone. I am almost to the end of the clean up I am wiping the counter tops when I ever so ‘gently’ nudge a wine glass and it topples over. It fell to its side making that perfect clinking noise as glass shards sailed across my now pristine kitchen.
I didn’t miss a beat, I keep up my phone conversation and shifted to glass pick up mode. Finally, both my conversation and kitchen/glass cleanup had concluded.
Once again, it was time to retreat to the upstairs! Only now, instead of relaxing, I have to add confession to the top of my ‘to do’ list.
I went into the bedroom and greeted my husband. Playfully admitting I had a confession.
Me; “Sooooooo….. did you hear anything downstairs”.
Hubby: “You broke a wine glass.”
Me; “Yes…….. BUT…… there is some GOOD NEWS.”
Hubby: “It was the set your mom gave us, that already had a broken one, so now we have an even number again.”
That was the EXACT verbatim ‘GOOD NEWS’ I was going to be! Hubby literally stole the words right out of my mouth. How did he know???
Mamas, life doesn’t always go the way we planned, for any of us. That is why when we are in the hard parts we must remember our good news blessings. Getting to do life with my husband has been one of the greatest blessings God has given me. He was my perfect helpmate while grieving our baby losses, and he has been my rock of support in the rebuilding years since.
Recently, hubby and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary in Vegas. (Wait a minute, is this an oxymoron?) We commemorated this married milestone with a special dinner. The server congratulated us and asked how long we’d been married; I will never forget the server’s comment:
“Your married self can rent a car.”
Mamas, life is an adventure. Who is the passenger in your rental car?
God may have said no to my baby dreams, but He did give me the man of my dreams. Never lose sight of your ‘good news’ blessings.
