Radish

“Radishes clean your blood”.  I was washing radishes in my kitchen sink when my mom’s voice came into my head. We don’t buy radishes often, so I was surprised this tidbit was so easily pulled from my memory. That is what my mom used to tell us each night when we ate our leafy green salad. She also promised the lettuce would make us have beautiful babies. I know it was a bribe to get us eating our vegetables, BUT judging from my nieces, she wasn’t lying about the lettuce! Leafy greens really do make you have beautiful babies!

Then there was the practical advice from my grandma… Did you know you should always wash the top of can lids before opening them? I remember my grandma saying that canned goods are stored in warehouses. Warehouses have, rats, and that rats don’t have bladder control so they pee as they roam around. I can tell you honestly, after that caution, I have never forgotten to wash a canned lid before opening. Like, never, ever, ever! My grandma is in Heaven now, but her laughter and advice clearly live on in my kitchen and other areas of my life.

What’s the point of me sharing these random sayings that have been engraved in my mind since childhood?  Aside from wanting my mamas to stay healthy and have beautiful babies… The bigger reason is this:

WORDS
MATTER

We tend to forget this in our hypercritical online world, where people can hide behind user names and type cowardly things would never be said in real life to real people. We have become bolder, brasher, and a lot less beautiful.

Aren’t we all guilty of ugly moments?

Jesus famously said: “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”  NIV Luke 6:45

Mamas, this verse was also pulled from memory. I didn’t even know it was sloshing around up there! To be fair it was only the last part that was from memory ‘for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

This single verse sure does prove my point, words matter. Words live on forever.

What words are you known for mamas? Do you need to examine your heart?  Close your mouth? Or both?
