Five People

Summer is now turning into to fall thus my dread of the winter season has set in. As I mourn the death of this summer season, I can’t help but reminiscence about its highlights.

One of the last summer activities was a rate treat on a boat with wonderful friends. It was a great day on the very GREEN lake.

We had finished several hours on the water and it was time to pull the boat out, wipe it down and finish the day with a delicious milkshake on the ride home. At least that was the plan until we hit a snag.

When it comes to the boat ramp, you can tell which boaters failed kindergarten.   Who knows how to takes turns? Who knows how to shares the lane? Those who did not learn these basic kindergarten skills can create some real chaos.

And then there are just plain bad people.

The group in front of us had pulled their boat out of the lake only to discover that someone had slashed two driver side tires of their boat trailer.  Not one tire, where you would have the spare to replace it.  No, it was two, and meant to render them completely destitute.  Thankfully those plans were foiled. Our foursome stopped, and provided aide, muscle and tools. Or more accurately, our husbands did!  We didn’t leave until we knew they were able to make it home safely. This delayed our milkshake treat, but it was sure nice to know that when someone is in trouble, our husbands stop to help.

The company you keep matters.  One of my favorite podcasters says you are the sum of the five people you hang out with most. This is so true!

Time for so self-reflection mamas… In this ever-increasing divisive and immoral world do your five people reflect your values? Do your words match your actions? Are you the Good Samaritan or the tire slasher?  Think of that the next time you find yourself in an uncomfortable group situation. Ask yourself, am I proud of my five people? If you can’t say yes to this question, perhaps it is time to make some substitutions?

You are the sum of the five people you hang out with most.

Mamas, we get to decide the company we keep. Do you have a Good Samaritan amongst your five?
